Acceptance of terms & eligibility
By creating an account, downloading the Africlana mobile app, or transacting on the Africlana Platform (“Service”), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, along with our Privacy Policy.
- Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age, or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, to open an account, purchase goods, or list items as a vendor on Africlana.
- Account accuracy
- You agree to provide true, current, and complete registration and billing information at all times.
The escrow marketplace model
Africlana operates a multi-vendor platform on a centralized holding model with programmatic payouts, designed to eliminate fraud for both buyers and sellers.
- A
- Escrow lock at checkout
- When a buyer checks out with a cart containing items from multiple sellers, 100% of the funds are locked in Africlana's secured escrow account. The order is automatically split into independent sub-orders for each vendor.
- B
- 48-hour inspection window
- Once a sub-order is marked as delivered, the buyer has 48 hours to inspect the goods. During this window, the buyer can confirm receipt or open a dispute if the item is damaged, defective, or incorrect.
- C
- Programmatic payout / auto-release
- When the buyer confirms receipt, or if 48 hours lapse after verified delivery without a dispute, the system automatically disburses the seller's payout — minus platform commission — to their registered bank account via the Paystack/Flutterwave Transfers API.
Buyer terms & protections
As a buyer on Africlana:
- Payment security
- Your money is held in escrow until you verify your item is received in satisfactory condition.
- Prompt inspection
- You agree to inspect your items promptly upon delivery and confirm receipt, or initiate a dispute, before the 48-hour inspection period expires.
- Delivery addresses
- You are solely responsible for providing an accurate physical shipping address. Failure to receive packages due to inaccurate address details may incur re-delivery fees.
Seller & artisan obligations
Vendors on Africlana must uphold high authenticity and customer satisfaction standards.
- Identity verification
- All sellers must complete identity verification via YouVerify prior to publishing listings and receiving escrow disbursements.
- Authentic item descriptions
- Listings must accurately represent the product, material quality, dimensions, and craftsmanship. Counterfeit or mislabeled goods will result in instant account ban and forfeiture of escrow funds.
- Dispatch SLA
- Sellers must pack and dispatch orders within the stated fulfillment window, typically 1–3 business days.
Payments, currencies & platform fees
Payments are processed via authorized payment partners, Paystack and Stripe.
- Currency conversion
- Prices may be viewed in local currencies (USD, GBP, EUR, NGN). Exchange rates are calculated dynamically at checkout.
- Seller commission
- Africlana deducts an agreed platform service commission from the gross order total upon releasing escrow funds to the seller.
- Gateway fees on refunds
- In the event of a partial or full refund due to a dispute or seller cancellation, payment gateway processing fees (~1.5%) are absorbed per platform terms.
Shipping & fulfillment
Sellers may fulfill orders using two recognized fulfillment routes:
The seller packs the items, arranges dispatch through their approved local courier, and uploads tracking information directly to their dashboard.
The platform coordinates a dedicated pickup from the seller and handles cross-city or international shipping, updating transit status automatically.
Disputes & partial refunds
Our multi-vendor architecture allows isolated dispute resolution, sub-order by sub-order.
If a buyer orders items from two distinct sellers in a single checkout, and Seller A delivers successfully while Seller B delivers an incorrect item, the buyer can confirm Seller A — releasing Seller A's funds — and open a dispute exclusively on Seller B's sub-order.
Our admin compliance team investigates photo and video evidence submitted by both parties. If the dispute is decided in the buyer's favor, a partial refund is initiated directly back to the buyer's original payment method via the gateway API.
Prohibited items & marketplace conduct
Users may not list, buy, sell, or advertise any of the following on Africlana:
- Counterfeit or replica designer goods
- Stolen or protected national cultural artifacts
- Weapons, firearms, and explosives
- Illicit narcotics and prescription drugs
Intellectual property
All Africlana branding, trademarks, user interface designs, and platform algorithms are the exclusive intellectual property of Africlana. Sellers grant Africlana a worldwide, non-exclusive license to display product photographs and descriptions solely for marketing and order processing purposes on the Platform.
Disclaimers & limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Africlana disclaims all warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. In no event shall Africlana's total liability exceed the total escrow fees earned from the transaction at issue.
Termination & account deletion
You may terminate your agreement with Africlana and delete your account at any time. We provide both direct in-app deletion and an online request portal on our account deletion page.
Africlana reserves the right to suspend or permanently terminate accounts found engaging in fraud, harassment, non-fulfillment of escrow obligations, or listing prohibited items.
